Buzzin’ Brood Student Spotlight: Sedigheh Bagheriziari, Montgomery College

BioBuzz’s Buzzin’ Brood Student Spotlight series celebrates the future of life sciences talent — and the programs, institutions, and organizations investing in them.

Name: Sedigheh Bagheriziari

Hometown: Maryland

Institution: Montgomery College (Montgomery County, Maryland)

Role: Biotechnology Boot Camp Participant

For Sedigheh Bagheriziari, the path into life sciences wasn’t just about reading textbooks — it was about getting her hands on science. Her initial exposure to laboratory work as a volunteer at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) sparked a realization: science isn’t just theory, it’s a discipline applied in real-world settings to solve actual problems. To turn that interest into a tangible career path, she enrolled in the Maryland Biotechnology Boot Camp at Montgomery College.

Through the boot camp, Sedigheh has been bridging the gap between academic research and industry standards, mastering hands-on lab skills, documentation, quality assurance, and manufacturing practices. Now, with her certification in hand, she is looking to bring her work ethic and curiosity to an entry-level manufacturing role within the BioHealth Capital Region. She views manufacturing not just as a starting point, but as the critical foundation for a long-term career trajectory toward Quality Control (QC) and Regulatory Affairs.

We sat down with Sedigheh to talk about her path into biotechnology, what’s exciting her right now, and where she sees herself headed next.

How did you get here?

My interest in biotechnology grew as I gained more exposure to laboratory work and saw how science can be applied in real-world settings. I previously volunteered in a laboratory at UMBC, which gave me valuable experience and helped me realize that I wanted to continue building a career in the life sciences.

More recently, I completed a biotechnology boot camp at Montgomery College, where I strengthened my hands-on lab skills and learned more about industry practices, documentation, quality, and manufacturing. Now, I’m looking for an entry-level opportunity where I can get my foot in the door, gain real industry experience, and continue growing. I’m especially interested in starting in manufacturing and, over time, exploring opportunities in Quality Control or Regulatory Affairs.

What is currently blowing your mind right now?

Right now, I’m excited about starting my career in biotechnology. Finishing the biotech boot camp gave me more confidence and helped me understand the industry better.

These emojis represent learning, growth, hard work, and being excited about starting a new career path in biotechnology.

If you could travel into the future… what does your LinkedIn headline say?

Biotechnology Professional | Quality Control, Quality Assurance & Regulatory Affairs | Growing Through Experience and Continuous Learning

I am building toward this by seeking out foundational roles in manufacturing where I can learn the operational side of the industry first-hand. From there, I hope to transition into quality assurance and regulatory affairs to ensure that life-saving products are safe, effective, and compliant.

If you had one wish, what would it be?

If I had one wish, it would be to always have the opportunity to keep learning, growing, and experiencing new things. I would love to build a meaningful career, travel to new places, meet different people, and look back one day knowing that I made the most of every opportunity that came my way.
