AstraZeneca and Oracle Launch Global AI Collaboration to Optimize Clinical Trials and Speed Patient Care

AstraZeneca (NYSE: AZN), whose U.S. headquarters is in Wilmington, Delaware, and Oracle Health and Life Sciences announced on October 20, 2026 a global AI collaboration to bring evidence-driven insights into care workflows, optimize clinical trials, and help patients receive the right care sooner. The collaboration combines AstraZeneca’s scientific, clinical development, and regulatory expertise with Oracle’s real-world data, cloud infrastructure, and AI-enabled clinical capabilities.

“This unique collaboration brings leaders in healthcare and AI together at a global scale to accelerate the journey from the discovery of medicine to patient care,” said Pascal Soriot, CEO of AstraZeneca. “Combining AstraZeneca’s world class science with Oracle’s deep data and technology expertise, we can help clinicians identify patients sooner, optimise clinical trials, and generate evidence continuously across the lifecycle of a medicine.”

Connecting Research to Everyday Care

Many serious conditions are diagnosed late, patients can wait a long time for referrals, and there are gaps in how scientific advances reach clinical practice. The collaboration is designed to test practical ways to connect research directly to clinical workflows. Initial areas of focus include clinical trial recruitment, earlier diagnosis, drug-safety monitoring, and the use of real-world evidence across a medicine’s lifecycle. Programs will span AstraZeneca’s core disease areas: oncology; cardiovascular, renal and metabolic diseases; respiratory and immunology; and rare disease.

“Some of the most important opportunities for AI are in healthcare, where better use of data can help turn scientific innovation into better outcomes for patients,” said Mike Sicilia, CEO of Oracle. “By bringing AstraZeneca’s scientific expertise together with Oracle’s data, cloud, AI, and healthcare capabilities, we have an opportunity to help accelerate research, connect more patients to clinical trials, and ultimately bring relevant insights into care faster.”

First Program: Hypertension Care in Abu Dhabi

The collaboration will include projects across the U.S., the Middle East, and Europe, working with local governments and within applicable regulations. The first program, with healthcare company M42 in Abu Dhabi, will focus on hypertension. It will help clinical teams identify patients with uncontrolled hypertension, implement guideline-directed care, and improve clinical trial recruitment.

“Healthcare progress depends on shortening the distance between scientific insight and the decisions clinicians make every day,” said Seema Verma, executive vice president and general manager of Oracle Health and Life Sciences. “This collaboration has the potential to help health systems identify eligible patients sooner, broaden access to clinical trials, and generate evidence that supports the next decision, all under the governance of the health systems delivering care.”

Built-In Privacy Safeguards

The collaboration will use deidentified real-world data under governance, privacy, and security arrangements, and AstraZeneca will not receive patient-identifiable information. Each proposed project will be reviewed separately and will proceed only once appropriate legal, privacy, regulatory, ethical, and institutional safeguards are in place. The companies have signed a non-binding term sheet, and no financial terms were disclosed.
