The global biologics characterization CRO nearly tripled its US lab space this year, and used its first Open Day to introduce itself to more of its regional neighbors.
MALVERN, Pennsylvania, USA – BioPharmaSpec, the leading global Contract Research Organization (CRO) for Discovery and Preclinical Characterization of Biopharmaceuticals, welcomed members of the regional life sciences community to its Open Day at its newly expanded, high-tech laboratory in Malvern, Pennsylvania, on October 20th.
With an established presence in the US spanning more than a decade, BioPharmaSpec Inc. supports the biopharmaceutical industry through advanced structural, physicochemical, and biophysical characterization of complex biologics. The Open Day offered clients, researchers, biotechnology professionals, and industry partners an opportunity to visit the expanded facility, meet the scientific team, and learn more about the company’s work in addressing complex analytical challenges.
Expanded Space for Instrumentation and Staff
The Malvern laboratory, just outside Philadelphia, is BioPharmaSpec’s only US-based lab. It first opened in 2015 and moved to its current site at the beginning of 2026, expanding from just over 4,000 square feet to more than 11,000 square feet.

“Now we have lots more room to expand instrumentation and staff, and the space we need to continue to grow,” said Christopher D. Ziegenfuss, Vice President of BioPharmaSpec Inc. “Our US team has built strong relationships with clients and colleagues across the biopharmaceutical industry over the years, and the expanded Malvern facility allows us to continue that work in a modern laboratory environment while creating further opportunities to connect with the regional life sciences community. It was great to welcome visitors, introduce them to our team, and hear about the analytical challenges they are working to solve.”
Tours, Technical Presentations and Networking
The event included guided laboratory tours, technical presentations throughout the afternoon and evening, opportunities to meet members of BioPharmaSpec’s local and international teams, and informal networking with colleagues from across the biopharmaceutical sector.
“The Greater Philadelphia Tri-State region has a strong life sciences community, and our Malvern laboratory has long been an important part of BioPharmaSpec’s work in supporting our clients’ needs in the advanced characterization of complex biopharmaceuticals. It was a pleasure to welcome local scientists, industry colleagues and partners to our newly expanded, high-tech facility on our Open Day,” said Prof. Howard R. Morris FRS, Emeritus Professor of Biological Chemistry at Imperial College London and Founder of the BioPharmaSpec Group of Companies.
“Our event went very well and we had very positive feedback from those who attended, both in terms of our new facilities and the technical presentations that were offered throughout the course of the evening,” said Ziegenfuss.
